In this video, I will show how to use da Vinci soap and Gamblin Gamsol. Da Vinci soap is contained inside a round tin can. It is yellowish and it smells good. To use da Vinci soap, I wet my dabber brush with water then soaped it. I leave it for a while then get my detailer and do the same process. This followed by the round brush.Paintbrush are very important tools for painting. It took me several tests to learn the type of brush that works for acrylic paints and mediums. I tried student brushes, taklon and finally Borciani Bonazzi silver brushes – this suited. But even if I have a quality brush, and if I did not take care of them, they will still be easily damaged. When I saw my flat brush 6 nearly damaged by matte medium, I decided to buy da Vinci soap and Gamblin Gamsol to prevent damaging them so I can use them for a longer period of time.
After soaping them, I washed them with water. Then wiped the excess water with baby wipes. The brushes are smoother. Before I used bath soap. Since they are designed for human skin, it doesn’t work the way Da VInci soap does. I also tried alcohol on my taklon brush. It became smoother. But after using it again, it becomes stiff. Probably a chemical reaction between alcohol and acrylic.
After washing them, I put Gamsol to further remove the remaining acrylic paint. I poured a little amount in the jar. Enough for it to work as a conditioner. I dipped my brushes in the gamsol. GAmblin gamsol works in two ways. One has aesthetic value and the other is utilitarian. If you have watched my video on drawing a horse skull, you can see how it dissolved the wax drawing pencil. ANd in this video for cleaning brushes. After the gamsol is dry, the brushes are a lot softer compared to before.
