In this video we will test Golden Artists Colors Black Gesso. I bought 32 fl. Oz or 946 ml. I already bought a big one because I trust Golden Artist Colors line of products. After opening it, it looks beautiful. I am going to prime Fredrix 16 x 14 inches canvas. Even if it is primed, I will still put black gesso. If you are new to acrylic painting, canvas is primed so it will not absorb lots of paint. You can also use it to cover paintings you dont like so you can reuse the canvas.
I use black because I am distracted by the white space. In graphic design, a page is filled as much as you can. Also I like dark arts and chiaroscuro. Oftentimes, my friends describe my artworks dark because of the dominance of dark colors.
As for the result of testing, i thought it’s oily like you can really see the oil separated from the gesso. And my taklon brush is sliding when I’m applying it. But after stirring, it becomes rich and thick. Perhaps there’s oil on it to keep it out from drying and it can be used longer. While it is wet you can even see my reflection. And when it’s dry it is absolutely matte. And here’s the best part. It is odorless. I will highly recommend Gold Artists Colors for priming canvas.
I hope you like my video on how to use black gesso. I hope it helps you on art journey to success. BTW I’m a graphic designer. I also create websites, motion graphics and video editing.
