How My Quest for Building GoPro Videography Services Started

I’ve been working as a graphic designer since 2017. Being a graphic designer is my dream job and over the span of 9 years, my role has rotated to all segments of multimedia design including prints, web design, 2d animation, video editing and 3d modeling. Other than the creative and technical side of multimedia design, I also learned how the industry works. Working as a graphic designer is fun and prestigious. But the dark side of working as a graphic designer is that clients come and go. It feels like an endless loop of being hired and contracts getting terminated. Another horrible fate of being a graphic designer is working with marketing. Marketing is very poor in planning, dumb and they grab all the credits that graphic designers accomplish. Contract is also an issue. There’s a client who gave me a very small increase after all I have accomplished like troubleshooting the problems of rebranding, designing the website and fixing all the prints required for a half-blown event in Barcelona. I had enough. I just want to end this loop so I decided to focus my attention on videography.

Prior to my graphic design role, I worked as an IT where I was able to join a corporate camera club. That’s the time I learned to use a DSLR and I was recognized by my colleagues, family and friends as a photographer. It was the year 2012 and there was a limitation on the video technology. If you want to have nice videos at that time, you really need to buy high-end DSLRs. But when GoPro arrived, it changed the game and gave rise to the genre of action camera. When it was first released, I was still a DSLR conservative and I don’t have any plan of using GoPro. Even during my master studies I made a thesis. about photography. But when I needed to revise it, I decided to change it to 3D due to the cost. After that, my DSLR didn’t work anymore which marked the end of my photography career.

Fast forward to 2022, I tried to do a travel vlog. That's why I bought GoPro Hero 9 Black especially because it is lightweight and water resistant. I traveled to Boracay, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Bangkok, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia twice. I enjoyed traveling. However, I lost clients and traveling became too expensive for me. I focused on my work as a graphic designer. It improved but I didn’t gain many clients like I used to. Maybe because of my rate also. As much as I want to stay in graphic design forever, my relationship with my client has become sour. Others don’t have a budget and weren't able to restore their businesses.

One time there’s a French-based telecom engineer who availed my video editing service. The rate was in Euros. It’s a one time project but the pay is good. It’s like a return-on-investment on my trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with interest! I realized if I invest my time and effort on video production, I can create my. fortune out of it. Although it is hard work to shoot outdoors, it’s a lot of fun and adventure. I have faith in. my videography and this is my direction. This is how my quest for videography started.
